Tagua nut jewelry originates from Tagua Palm trees growing in Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador. This is organic jewelry made from Nature’s bounty!
Every 7 years female Tagua Palm tree produces nuts that are covered with thick husk. This husk gets removed, the shells get broken and inside is a creme colored nut that is called vegetable ivory- because it has an appearance close to elephants’ tusks, but in this case the nuts are produced by nature and no animals are hurt in the process.
Tagua is dense and durable, but lightweight and it last very long time.
Tagua nuts are sliced into various shapes, holes are drilled into each slice and jewelry makers assemble the chips into necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Various colors you see are made with organic dyes imported from Italy or made by the artisans from Flower petals, grass, insects etc. Each necklace is assembled on a cotton cord dipped into bee wax, which makes it very strong and long lasting- the cord does not wear out with use. The cord has adjustable length, depending where it looks best with the outfit.
Organic Tagua nut jewelry is made by the artisans in small batch artisanal production. This jewelry has swept the world with its enchanting natural quality, artistic designs and smooth feel on the skin.
